#JapanInMyProspective….i want see this world through my eyes ~ Shiori

“I want to see this world through my eyes.” ~ Shiori.

These are the words of a Japanese traveler friend who started traveling to see the world, not through YouTube or books, but in real life—from Indonesia to different parts of the world. Before meeting her, I had met many travelers, especially Japanese ones (by “many,” I mean three).

One of them was a businessman who sold his business and decided to travel for 10 years. I met him in Rishikesh and then again in Dharamshala, McLeod Ganj (known as “Little Lhasa”). He was a good man, introverted.

Another was an extroverted guy. When he was leaving McLeod Ganj for Dharamkot with his Korean female friend, he had a bag full of condoms. Before he left, he gave a condom to every person in the dorm.

In Dharamkot, he started working and taught me a Japanese word, “蛙” ~ Kaeru

The word Kaeru, which means “frog,” also has another meaning in Japanese: “to return.” Frogs are associated with people returning to their place of origin. Many travelers use the symbol of a frog to ensure a safe return from their journeys.

Kaeru is my favorite word in Japanese because it reminds me of my all-time favorite anime and a key memory from 7th grade: Naruto.

In Naruto, after his fight with Pain (one of his former students who he believed would bring positive change to the world but instead turned to darkness), Naruto’s teacher said:

“The frog in the well that drifts into the great ocean. Not bad. Not bad at all. Now, I suppose it’s about time I put down my pen. Oh… that’s right… What should I name the sequel? I wonder… let’s see… The Tale of Naruto Uzumaki. Yes, that has a nice ring to it.”

These words encapsulate the story—The Tale of Naruto Uzumaki. Interestingly, Naruto’s father named him after reading his teacher’s book, and his teacher was also naruto father’s teacher.

And who is also teacher? The weaving poem, ‘Shiori.’

And when I left my home to travel (for a secret project), I connected with Jiraiya’s words: “The Frog In The Well That Drifts Into The Great Ocean.”

In my 23 years of life, I had never left home for long or met such amazing people from around the world.

and interesting thing, Shiori also means “guide,” and like her name, she does the same work. She gave me the same feeling as Jiraiya because she writes about her journey, just like Jiraiya did when he traveled the world, recording his experiences in a diary.

the Jiraiya wrote a book about the character Naruto Uzumaki, a character inspired by Nagato (the real Pain who ultimately killed him). But in the end, he realized… Naruto is the real “The Real Naruto.”

Tired Now i write tommorow
